Expansive views of the Indian River Bay highlight this waterfront home
(Editor’s note: This is the fifth in a series of previews of the homes that will be on display during the 25th Annual Beach & Bay Cottage Tour, to be held July 27-28, from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.)
After vacationing in the Bethany Beach area for 18 years, the owners of this house and their two adult daughters began looking for more breathing room and found the perfect waterfront location in Irons Landing.
Completed in August of 2015, this 5,863-square-foot, four-bedroom, 4.5-bath home has a commanding view of the Indian River, accessed by multiple decks, porches, an expansive lawn and a generous dock for launching the family’s three boats.
To counteract the northern exposure on the water side of the house, they’ve created an open and airy layout bathed in natural light from every direction. The owner has kept the décor simple and serene, preferring the continuity of using the same neutral wall color and hickory floors throughout the home, a look she says was inspired by the beach house in the movie “Something’s Got to Give.”
She’s made every effort to keep the water views unobstructed, by eliminating hanging light fixtures and keeping the window treatments as simple as possible. The focus is clearly on maximizing the beauty of the natural surroundings, so that the family can enjoy the herons, dolphins, skate, waterfowl and bald eagles that share the tranquil setting with them.
This is just one of the properties that will be open to those who purchase tickets for the 25th Annual Beach & Bay Cottage Tour. Tickets, priced at $30, may be purchased at the South Coastal Library or through the Cottage Tour’s website at www.beachandbaycottagetour.com. The Cottage Tour is sponsored by the Friends of the South Coastal Library, and proceeds directly benefit the library’s operations.
