The body of missing Maryland man Nicholas R. Townsend, 23, of Ocean City, was found about 12:30 p.m. on March 17 in the Assawoman Bay off Ocean City.
Townsend was last seen about 4 a.m. March 2 as he and Matthew Bullen were canoeing in the Assawoman Bay off of Fenwick Island. Bullen later reported that the canoe had tipped over, throwing Townsend and Bullen into the water. Bullen was able to swim to the shore, he told police, but Townsend was not.
After later reporting the incident to a friend, Bullen was subsequently arrested in connection with the theft of the canoe from a home in Fenwick Island and on other charges.
Townsend’s body was turned over to the Medical Examiner’s office in Maryland where an autopsy was to be performed to determine his cause of death.
