Sussex County realtors participate in national campaign
Realtors from throughout Delaware’s southernmost county will be putting out the welcome mat this weekend, showcasing homes as part of a national campaign aimed at spurring interest in local real estate markets.
The Nationwide Open House Weekend, which began on a local level a couple of years ago, is a time when Realtors across the United States are invited to hold open houses in their areas. It is designed to drive attention and interest to homes for sale and offers opportunities to educate the public about the benefits of home ownership.
This year’s event is scheduled for June 4-5 in the United States.
“We at the Sussex County Association of Realtors (SCAOR) are happy to participate in this special event and are looking forward to showcasing many of the homes in our area this weekend,” said Sandy Greene, 2011 president of SCAOR. “This is a wonderful opportunity, at the beginning of the summer season, to highlight our area and the many benefits to living, or relocating, here. I invite the public to stop in and see many of the homes that are being featured this weekend.”
This is the second year for the national event, which was inspired by a state-wide open house event held two years ago by the Washington Association of Realtors. Impressed by its effectiveness, talks began on considering taking it nationwide.
About 60 percent of state and local associations around the country responded in 2010 by holding the first nationwide open-house event. This year, the National Association of Realtors is promoting the event on a larger scale, hoping to give buyers a stress-free way of viewing several homes for sale in an area in a single day.
“This is a good opportunity for us to promote some of the homes we have on the market right now, and maybe interest a few people who are just passing through,” said Judy Dean, who – along with her husband, Fred – will be showcasing four Georgetown-area homes this weekend. “It’s a good chance for people to come out and see what is available in our area during a wonderful time of the year.”
In Sussex County, homes will be open to the public all throughout the coastal areas, as well as areas and municipalities farther inland. For prospective home buyers, the weekend promises one of the easiest and most streamlined times of the year to get out and look at homes on the market.
Real estate in Sussex County has become as diverse as its residents. Whether it’s a small farm, a large agricultural tract, a second home, a historic property, a primary residence or a multi-family unit, they are available throughout southern Delaware.
And, this weekend, as warmer weather has returned and residents and visitors alike begin to settle in for the summer season, Realtors will be showcasing everything the county has to offer.
The Sussex County Association of Realtors was chartered in 1949 and has steadily grown in size, scope and mission during its 61 years in Sussex County. It is a professional trade association with goals of carrying out a program of education and advocacy for real estate in the county.
