Robert J. ‘Biff’ Baker, 81

Robert J. “Biff” Baker, 81, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Arkansas. Born in Wilmington, he worked for many years at the E.I. DuPont Co. He was past commander of American Legion Stahl Post #30 of New Castle, Del., a member of VFW Post #7234 at Quillen’s Point in Ocean View, and a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, Del. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing and gardening.

Baker is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jean (Carello) Baker; two step-sons, Eugene Poppitt and his wife, Dora, of Lincoln, Del., and Julius Poppitt and his wife, Lois, of Leipsic, Del.; a step-daughter, Angeline Rees and her husband, Robert, of New Castle; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services on West Ave. in Ocean View, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Garfield Pkwy., Bethany Beach. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Del.
