Herschel Henry Quillen Jr., 80

Herschel Henry Quillen Jr., 80, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2009. He graduated from the Valley Forge Military Academy, Class of 1947, and returned home to work on the family farm and harness racing business with his father. He later retired from Vlasic Foods Inc.

Quillen was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel Sr. and Pearl Quillen; and his wife, Mabel. He is survived by his son, Herschel Quillen III of Wilmington, Del.; two daughters, Cindy Whaley and her husband, Terry, and Nancy Smith and her husband, Alan, all of Laurel, Del.; five grandchildren, Andrew Quillen, Francesca Quillen, Tracy Whaley Kennedy and her husband, Matthew, Matthew Whaley and his wife, Gina, and Scott Smith and his wife, Lindsey; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Smith; a step-daughter, Dyan Lynch and her husband, Brasure; five step-sons, David Givans, Ron Givans, Jim Givans and his wife, Cyndy, Gary Givans and his wife, Carol, and Jeffrey Givans and his wife, Sandra; and ten step-grandchildren.

A graveside service was scheduled for noon on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. George’s United Methodist Church, 34281 Omar Rd., Frankford, DE 19945.
