Raymond F. Butler, 56, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at his home. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Raymond relocated to Sussex County in 1986. He was a dedicated instructor, coach, tutor and mentor at the former Sussex Central Middle School in Millsboro and was awarded the Indian River School District Teacher of the Year in 2002. He also coached Golden Knight baseball and football, tutored math and reading after school, was active with the IRSD Migrant and Bridges summer programs, and received a $50,000 grant from MBNA for the Migrant program. Butler was an Eagle Scout and involved with Cub Scout Troop 281.
He is survived by his wife, Rita V. (Studzinski) Butler; daughters, Renee Wright of Rehoboth Beach, Dianna Ennis of Dagsboro; son, Ryan Butler of Dagsboro; granddaughter, Jacquelyn Ennis’ sister, Kathleen Whitaker of New Castle. He will be deeply missed by a community of brothers, sisters in law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and students.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on West Avenue in Ocean View. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro.
