Viola Fay Ryan, 86, of Milton passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Capitol Health Care in Dover. She was born on Aug. 27, 1922, in Millsboro.
Ryan was employed in retail clothing sales for much of her life. She was a lifelong resident of Sussex County. She was a long-time volunteer at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, an avid birdwatcher, gardener, florist and fantastic cook. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and all-around perfect. She was a member of the St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church in Georgetown.
Her parents; husband, Patrick Francis Ryan; son, Richard Ryan; brother, David Ziegler; and a grandchild preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Michael Joseph Ryan of San Jose, Calif., and David George Ryan of Ocala, Fla.; four daughters, Patricia Fay Plummer of Georgetown, Sharon M. McDonald of Bear, Veronica Carey of Fenwick Island and Teresa A. Michiele of Milford; one brother, Ferdinand Ziegler of Delmar; one sister, Anna Marie of Fla.; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
A Mass was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the St. Edmonds Roman Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the local SPCA.
