John A. Garst Sr., 87
John A. Garst Sr., 87, of Frankford, Del., formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008. He was an operating engineer for Local Union 37 in Baltimore, retiring in 1979. A veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army, he was a member of American Legion Post #24 of Dagsboro and VFW Mason Dixon Post #7234 of Quillen’s Point, Ocean View, Del. He was also an active member of the Moose.
Garst was preceded in death by his parents, Wade H. and Hettie (Hedrick) Garst; his wife, Audrey Garst; a daughter, Gail Burke; a brother and four sisters. He is survived by two sons, Wayne Garst and his wife, Carol, and John Garst Jr. and his wife, Gloria; a daughter, Karen Bradley; a step-daughter, Joyce Henderson and her husband, George; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Building Fund of American Legion Post #24, P.O. Box 248, Dagsboro, DE 19939.
