Feel like getting into the spirit of the holidays? Well, this is the weekend for you.
The community has seemingly come to a collective decision to spread the joys of the holiday over the next three days, and the ambitious reveler could partake in most of what is available.
Starting tonight (Friday), one could kick off the season by taking in the time-honored traditions of the Selbyville Christmas parade. The event begins at 7 p.m. and features things from the past, as well as embraces some of the highlights of our present-day community.
Begin your Saturday the right way with the Southern Delaware School of the Arts indoor yard sale, which runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will feature the school’s temendously popular steel drum band. One could go right from the yard sale to the Bear Trap Home Tour from 3 to 6 p.m. to enjoy festive holiday decorations, before cutting over to Bethany Beach (also from 3 to 6 p.m.) for the first day of the Town’s Holiday Happenings event. The Saturday festivities are planned around families, and will feature the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree and a visit from Santa Claus.
Ready for more?
Take the kids home after the fun at Bethany Beach, get dolled up island-style, and head back downtown for the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation Caribbean Christmas. This year’s event will benefit Justin’s Beach House, a home to be built by the local organization, Contractors for a Cause that will afford families dealing with cancer an opportunity to spend some quality time together in Bethany. Not only is this event a great cause, it is also a great time, with music, dancing, food and an auction with great local art and other prizes.
Well, Sunday offers more fun, as music lovers can catch the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra’s performance at Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. and adults can enjoy the second installment of the Bethany Beach Holiday Happenings at town hall from 3 to 6 p.m. This one is for adults only, and is an excellent mixer for those wishing to meet new and interesting people while soaking in some holiday atmosphere.
This is the weekend of all weekends for holiday joy in this community. Of course, you don’t have to hit them all, but there should be plenty for anybody to do over the next three days.
