Election time in Ocean View

The Town of Ocean View will hold its annual election on April 9, from noon to 5 p.m., at Town Hall (32 West Ave.).

As it stands, Council Member Norm Amendt (Voting District 3) is running uncontested and incumbent Mayor Gary Meredith is running for reelection against challenger Wally Brown.

It’s still not too late to file for candidacy, but the Wednesday, March 9, deadline is fast approaching.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens, minimum 18 years of age, with one year of residency in Ocean View (as of April 8), and registered in the town’s “Books of Registered Voters.”

Anyone who wishes to run for office must file a Certificate of Nomination and pay a $20 filing fee at Town Hall, which is temporarily located at 39 Central Ave.

(The town expects to return to the renovated Town Hall in time for the election.)

Candidates must live in Voting District 3 to run for that seat.

Resident who have not already registered to vote in town elections need to do so by 3:30 p.m. March 9, at the temporary town hall.

Eligibility is as for candidates, except voters only need six months’ residency.
