Millsboro Chamber to host 18th annual bridal show Sunday
Those who have recently gotten engaged or who are in the process of planning their big day could find that a visit to the 18th Annual Central Sussex Bridal Show is a great way to spend their Sunday.
On March 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Greater Millsboro Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the bridal show at the newly renovated Millsboro Civic Center.
“I think this year is going to be extra-special, with the new hall. We are the first event to be put on in this hall. This will become the first look of what renovations have been done,” said Amy Simmons, the Chamber’s executive director.
Entry into the event costs $5 per person, but brides-to-be may attend free of charge. Simmons said that, last year, more than 300 people attended the event, and she is hoping for high attendance this year, as well.
“For a little area, I think it’s a pretty big event. We average somewhere around 90 brides,” she said. “It has definitely grown over the years. The few years that I’ve been involved with it, every year we’ve added new vendors and we’ve had vendors come from farther distances away.”
Throughout the event, attendees may speak with various vendors about the services they offer, from flowers to cakes to jewelry.
“We have photographers, caterers, venues and makeup artists. We have — and this is the first time — someone who has gone to school to be an officiant at a wedding — that’s new for us this year. We have Vintage Limos of Delaware coming with their very, very old antique limo. We have rental places, event planners, travel agents… we have everything.”
At 1 p.m., Yvonne Cimone of Dance Moves and Manners will conduct a dance seminar on a wedding’s first dance. Cimone will be handing out a list of wedding dance tips and coupons for savings on private lessons.
“She does a little etiquette class on first dances. She’ll talk about the different dances you can do for your first dance,” explained Simmons. “Normally, she comes down on the floor, breaks down and teaches a couple of steps of a first dance.”
Simmons said that Brian K. Hall will be the event’s emcee and noted that two bridal fashion shows will also take place, featuring fashions from Amore Bridal at noon and Candlelight Bridal at 2 p.m.
“This year, we’re really happy we’re having Amore Bridal coming in from Dover to do a fashion show,” said Simmons, adding that the show will feature wedding dresses, as well as mother-of-the-bride dresses and flower-girl dresses.
Simmons said she hopes those in the community who are gearing up for a wedding will be sure to swing by the event for a great time.
“I want everybody to have a nice time,” she said. “I hope for lots of brides and that when they’re here they can find vendors to help them plan their special day. I’m really looking forward to it.”
