Carter to feature new artwork this weekend

Bethany Beach artist Jennifer Carter has produced a series of new works — all in her usual shore-side theme — in anticipation of a number of artistic events coming in the second season.

This weekend will mark the first of those events, with the annual Boardwalk Art Show on the boardwalk of Carter’s part-time hometown on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., where she will be among more than 100 artists displaying and selling their work.

Perhaps best known for her images of the old Bethany Beach water tower, the Fenwick Island lighthouse and some tasty native crustaceans, Carter features beach chairs and umbrellas at the shore in the new series of watercolors, with whimsical titles such as “Child’s Play,” “Bethany Margarita” and “Margarita Beach.”

Smaller versions of the new paintings, as well as some of Carter’s previous work, will be available for purchase at the Boardwalk Art Show.

The original version of one of the paintings in the series already has a new owner, as Carter donated it as a prize for the best float in the 2005 Bethany Beach Fourth of July Parade. It now hangs in DiFebo’s restaurant, in honor of their top finish.

Carter has also donated the original of “Bethany Margarita” for the Art-in-the-Hat raffle featured as part of the annual SouthEastern Delaware Artists Studio Tour (SEDAST), which is set for Friday and Saturday Nov. 25 and 26, the two days after Thanksgiving this year.

The Gonzaga College High School art teacher will also feature her work at a new art show set for the Indian River Life-Saving Station near Dewey beach on Sept. 24.
