Blossoms blooms with move to Dagsboro

For many passersby, the big sign already gave it away, but for those who missed it, Blossoms, a full-service flower shop, quietly moved inland, to the town of Dagsboro, this past Memorial Day weekend.

“This is where the growth is,” explained co-owner Sandy DeChurch. “And we own the land, so we get to be our own landlord.”

The 2.5-acre parcel, with a 1940s-style bungalow, sits right on Route 26, across from Dr. Prentiss Adkins’ office, so visibility will still be high. And, the shop still has the same delivery area, from Rehoboth Beach to Ocean City to Ocean Pines to the Millsboro/Long Neck area and everything in between.

DeChurch said the shop has had steady business, despite the economy, and it was the right time to make the move.

“We’ve been in business four years in December,” DeChurch said, of the shop she runs with her niece and co-owner Theresa Pyle. “And, fortunately, the economy has not made a big difference for us. People still have anniversaries and birthdays, weddings and funerals.”

DeChurch said they have ahead of them one of their busiest summer weddings seasons yet, with the months of June, July and August busier than ever. They had three weddings last weekend, two the weekend before that and have two more coming up. These special occasions and their orders from wire services – they are affiliated with 1-800-Flowers and Teleflora – keep them busy year-round.

Despite the move, DeChurch said she wanted to be sure their customers know they are still a local full-service florist, just located a little further inland.

“We didn’t abandon them. It was just time to make the move. We still take care of all of our customers and appreciate their business, and we are only a phone call away. Nothing has changed but our location.”

DeChurch said they have been welcomed with open arms by the town and have had visits from Mayor Wayne Baker and some other Dagsboro residents.

“It was a tremendous leap of faith,” she added of the move. “But, it’s been nothing but positive. So far, it’s working out and working out well.”

Blossoms is now located at 29472 Vines Creek Road (just past the Armory Road light) on Route 26 in Dagsboro. For more information, visit online or call (302) 732-3112.
