Coastal Leisure Center looking forward to spring
Exciting things are happening at the Coastal Leisure CHEER Center in Ocean View. A new director has been hired, and March is already filled with fun things to do.
“We have a great gal, Debbie Townsend, right from Ocean View,” said Florence Mason, nutritional director for CHEER Inc. Mason’s assistant was acting director in recent weeks. And for Mason, the new director is a happpy sign that life at the center is moving ahead.
“We are really excited," she said recently, noting that Townsend was undergoing training with CHEER in Long Neck and Lewes, and was expected to be working in Ocean View around March 4.
The Coastal Leisure Center will also be celebrating its 17th birthday in March, and its long local history.
“We used to be in the church, and then Town Hall," said Mason. “Then we were in the old Dairy Queen next to Hocker’s store, and we’ve been in this new location three years in July.”
Mason said staff and members were also looking forward to meeting their new director and planned to celebrate with a welcome luncheon.
“After she has a few days to get situated, we are going to have a welcome luncheon for the new director,” said Mason. “Although people will have probably already seen her around by then, we still wanted to have an event for people to come out and meet her.”
The Coastal Leisure Center is located at 36380 Cedar Neck Road. It is open to seniors 60 and older and serves lunch Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. The center offers educational and cultural trips, informative seminars and parties, transportation assistance and weekly bingo, Bible study and walking clubs.
