Council, mayoral candidates sought in South Bethany for May election

Four town council seats are up for election in South Bethany this year, and candidates may now register to run for the three council seats and the mayor’s seat, which has a separate election in the town. The candidate registration deadline is Wednesday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m.

The 2018 election is scheduled for Saturday, May 26, and the two-year terms begin in June. The seats up for election in 2018 are currently held by Don Boteler, Sue Callaway, William “Tim” Shaw and Mayor Pat Voveris.

Candidates must be: a natural person at least 21 years old; a U.S. citizen; never convicted of a felony or a crime of moral turpitude; and otherwise qualified as a voter.

Eligible voters must be a U.S. citizen and be either: a town resident for at least nine months (consecutively or nonconsecutively) of the preceding year; a freeholder who holds property through a deed or trust at least 90 consecutive days before the election; or the spouse of a freeholder, whether their name is on the deed or not.

At least four of the seven town council members must be residents. The mayor must be a resident, throughout the campaign and their term of service.

If an election is scheduled, absentee voting will be permitted.
