Two seats are up for grabs on the Indian River School District school board — Dana Probert and Leolga T. Wright are competing for a five-year term in District 3, and Derek E. Cathell and Carla M. Ziegler are competing to finish a term in District 5, after a school board member had moved out of the district.
The election will take place on Tuesday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. In a story that starts on our front page this week, you will get the details on where to vote, and a Q&A from the candidates so you are able to make a more informed choice as a voter.
So, what’s at stake here?
Well, quite a bit, actually. For starters, the District is looking at unprecedented growth, and the potential to have to build new schools to accomodate that growth in the future, meaning there must be a funding mechanism to build said schools. There are also curriculum, staffing and other concerns that directly affect how our children are taught, and what exactly they are taught.
It’s a big deal.
Devour as much information as you can before casting your vote next week. It’s your vote. Treat it as sacred.
