Little League tournament season kicks off

The 2018 Little League District 3 All-Star tournaments for both baseball and softball will run through most of July, leading up to the World Series — with Senior League Softball World Series play set to begin July 30, once again hosted at the Pyle Center in Roxana. But the Senior League baseball bracket got under way early, on Wednesday, June 27.

The double-elimination tournament opened up with Millsboro taking on the Georgetown/Cape entry in Game 1. Thursday’s games (also after Coastal Point press time) were set to feature Lower Sussex taking on Nanticoke/Laurel, followed by Woodbridge squaring off with the winner from Game 1.

The bracket is scheduled to run through the championship game on Tuesday, July 3, with all games being played at Nanticoke.

The 8-10 baseball division tournament bracket doesn’t begin play until Thursday, July 5. Teams involved include Lower Sussex, Milton, Lewes/Rehoboth, Nanticoke, Georgetown, Laurel, Woodbridge and Millsboro. All of those games are being played at Lower Sussex’s Pyle Center complex.

The Major League baseball division bracket features Milton, Laurel, Millsboro, Woodbridge, Nanticoke, Lower Sussex, Georgetown and Lewes/Rehoboth. These games are scheduled to begin on Monday, July 9, and run through the championship on Sunday, July 15.

All of those games are being played at the Georgetown and Milton locations, with Milton serving as host for the championship.

The Junior baseball division features just three teams, including Lower Sussex, Georgetown/Cape and Nanticoke/Laurel. Millsboro will serve as a neutral site host for those games, which will also feature a double-elimination format.

The games for the Junior baseball division will begin on Saturday, July 14, and run through the championship game scheduled for Wednesday, July 18.

Over on the softball side of things, the Major division bracket is the first to see action, which will begin on Sunday, July 1.

Lower Sussex, Georgetown, Woodbridge, Cape, Millsboro and Laurel/Nanticoke all have entries in the bracket. Lower Sussex’s Pyle Center Complex is serving as the host for that bracket.

The Junior softball tournament gets under way on Tuesday, July 3, in a best-of-three series, since only two teams are in play. Georgetown/Cape have combined for one team, while the trio of Millsboro, Nanticoke and Laurel have joined forces for the other. That series will wrap up on Thursday, July 5.

In the 8-10 softball bracket, host Georgetown will be competing with Woodbridge, Millsboro, Cape, Laurel, Nanticoke and Lower Sussex. Those games are scheduled to begin on Sunday, July 8, and run through the championship on Saturday, July 14.

And last, but not least, a two-team best-of-three series will take place in the senior softball division, with a lineup identical to the teams involved in the Junior softball tournament —Georgetown/Cape teaming up to take on the Millsboro/Nanticoke/Laurel contingent. The two-day affair will start on Monday, July 23, and end on Tuesday, July 24.

All dates are subject to weather postponement due to inclement weather. For game times, sites and other information, check out the District 3 site at www.dedistrict3.org.
