Letter — Reader: Ballot box has been compromised

Editor:

Russian President Putin clearly stated that he preferred Donald Trump to be elected president of the U.S.A. Is it acceptable for President Donald Trump to believe the president of Russia more so than his own U.S. “intelligence agencies”?

Are we to be concerned that President Putin “is actively undermining global democracy and he hopes to gain from the political disorder in America”? Do we, within the U.S.A., have a growing political disorder? It certainly sounds, looks and feels exactly that way.

Did the president of Russia attempt to undermine our 2016 presidential election? Our U.S. “intelligence agencies” clearly identified those Russians who did. What are the consequences for such an action? President Trump did not believe his/our “intelligence agencies.”

Has Donald Trump violated his oath of office? The presidential oath is as follows: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” How “…will to the best of my ability” be evaluated? To a high bar or to a low bar?

What do we do with our vote in the coming local, state and national elections? Personally, I will continue to vote by mail via a paper ballot. My trust is in the U.S. Postal Service and our Sussex County Board of Elections. Our electronic voting approach has been compromised.
