It’s nearly time for bicyclists near and far to get their rubber to the pavement as the 5th Annual Tour de Sussex is slated to take place on Sept. 22 at Delaware Technical Community College’s Owens Campus, located at 21179 College Drive in Georgetown.
The event is sponsored by Delaware Technical Community College, and the proceeds from the event will provide scholarships for Workforce Development students attending the school. The Workforce Development & Community Education Division at Del Tech has developed the event as an opportunity for residents and non-residents alike to see all the Sussex County has to offer during the event.
The Tour will start at 8 a.m., rain or shine, and will provide riders with an opportunity to choose one of three distances in which to race: 25, 50 and 62 miles. All of the routes for the race will start and end at the DelTech Stephen J. Betze Library parking lot, which is located near Building 4.
There will be rest stops along the ride for participants that will include restrooms, beverages and snacks, and a “sag wagon” available for support along the way as well. A post-race celebration will take place in the afternoon on campus, with lunch provided by local restaurants.
Registration costs $50 before Sept. 1. After Sept. 1, including up to the day of the event, registration will cost $60. For participants 16 or younger, it costs $25. Members of a team registering together will each save $5 on their fees.
All participants must sign a waiver of liability prior to the race. Each rider’s participation fee includes a unisex tech long-sleeved shirt, lunch, maps of the course and rest-stop refreshments.
