Catherine D. “Kay” Loysen, 88, of Ocean View, Del., alumna of Jamaica High School and Alleghany College, and proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., on Aug. 26, 2018.
Hers was an active life, filled with world travel, tennis, lifelong learning, family and friends. Loysen was a patron and avid supporter of the local arts community, including the Rehoboth Beach Film Society and Clear Space Theatre Company. She was a mahjongg player and mentor, a New York Timescrossword aficionado and a long-suffering, but recently rewarded, Washington Capitals fan.
Loysen was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Allan Davis, and her stepfather, Edward G. Mercier. She is survived by her five children, Susan, Karen, Kristin, Christopher and Erik, and five granddaughters, Megan, Anna K., Jude, Simone and Lucie.
Plans for a celebration of Loysen’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asked people to consider a memorial contribution to one of her favorite passions, the Fierberg Student Film Award through the Rehoboth Beach Film Society; Osher Lifelong Learning at the University of Delaware; or the Delaware SPCA. Arrangements were being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, Ocean View, Del. Condolences may be sent online at www.parsellfuneralhomes.com.
