It might still feel like summer outside, but it’s never too early to start thinking about New Year’s Day traditions, whether it be looking for a new one or continuing a family favorite.
The Hair of the Dog 5K/10K, along with the Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimos Plunge, kicks off the new year with a splash every year. For those who register for the Hair of the Dog events by Sept. 30, there’s a nice little early Christmas gift — $5 off each race registration fee.
The Hair of the Dog, sponsored by the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, features overall and age-group awards, music, a festive course designed for family fun and a post-party at Mango’s restaurant. The 10K starts at 8:45 a.m. on New Year’s Day, and the 5K starts at 10 a.m. that day.
The races will start at Parkwood Street and Atlantic Avenue in Bethany Beach. Finishes will be at the Bethany Beach bandstand, oceanfront on Garfield Parkway.
Each entrant who registers by Dec. 5 is guaranteed a long-sleeved event T-shirt. The fee for the 5K is $35; the fee for the 10K is $45 (before the early-bird discount).
Register online at http://business.bethany-fenwick.org/events/details/annual-hair-of-the-do.... No special code is needed for the early-bird discount on registration. Online registration closes Dec. 21; on-site registration will be held Dec. 31 from noon to 3 p.m.
