Hunter “Scott” Sturgis, 63, died peacefully at home, after a long illness, on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018. He was born in Biloxi, Miss., second son of Jack and Becky Dirickson Sturgis, and grew up in Delmar, Md.
In 1978, Sturgis married Linda Ann Johnson of Georgetown, Del. He worked for many years as a professional chef and then enjoyed a very successful career in food-service sales. He died just five days before his and Linda’s 40th wedding anniversary.
Sturgis is survived by his wife, Linda, of Milford, Del.; two brothers, Carroll Sturgis and his wife, Sandy, and John Sturgis and his wife, Laura; father-in-law, Elwood Johnson; sisters and brothers by marriage, Marie and Walt Meding, Ivalene and Rob Still, and Quintin and Maria Johnson; 10 nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews, with an eighth due in October.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 22860 DuPont Boulevard, Georgetown, Del. Visitation and refreshments will follow the service, in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be sent to the giver’s favorite charity.
