Letter — Bethany thanks many for support with events

Another summer in Bethany Beach has come and gone. I am honored to plan the free entertainment so generously offered by the Town, but the concerts, bonfires, movies and special events take more than one person to make them successful, and planning begins well in advance.

Thanks to the performers for their talent and for making the Bethany Bandstand the place to be for summer entertainment. Visitors came by the thousands to experience 42 acts on the stage beginning with our Poseidon Festival Memorial Day weekend through our Concert Series ending on Labor Day weekend.

Thanks also to the production crew for bringing the stage to life, and the lifeguards for cleaning the comfort station and offering it as a dressing room.

Thanks goes out to the Bethany Beach Public Works crew who, among other things, cleaned the benches, beaches and stage areas, built the bonfires, set up/took down the large movie screens and sound equipment, and provided the beautiful, landscaped backdrop for it all.

Events also rely on the Bethany Beach Parking and Police Departments, as well as Town staff members. Special thanks to those folks for providing parking permits, security, assistance with load-in and load-out of equipment, and general behind-the-scenes details that ensure a successful event.

The Town also provides an annual intern opportunity for an events assistant. My assistant this year was Kasen Donald, a Radford University student who acquired valuable skills to support her major in music business management. We wish her the best in her final year of college.

Thanks also to the Blue Crab for donating marshmallows for the bonfires, Shore Break for donating ice for the band cooler, and the many volunteers who devote their time to the annual Seaside Craft Show and Fourth of July celebration.

Last but not least, no season would be complete without you, the audience. You show an appreciation for music of all types and genres and try to keep an open mind about the concerts. Thank you for that. Seeing you each year on the plaza is like a homecoming, and I’m already looking forward to next year.

Please visit our website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages to complete our 2018 Summer Events Survey and to stay in touch on upcoming events.

Don’t forget, movies will continue on the Bandstand on Fridays in September.
