Carol Ann Givans, 64, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, surrounded by her family, at the Delaware Hospice Center. She was born in Salisbury, Md., on Aug. 23, 1954, to the late Johnny Lathbury and Joyce Clark Lathbury.
Lathbury retired from work for the State of Delaware, for which she worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Stockley Center for about 22 years. She was a graduate of Indian River High School, in the Class of 1972.
In 1973, she married the love of her life, Gary Givans, and they would spend the next 45 years together. They raised two children. In her earlier years, she ran a home daycare while her children were young and helped her husband on their layer chicken farm.
She enjoyed time spent with her family, watching and riding the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, fishing, reading, welcoming the neighborhood kids in her home, and trips to the park and library with her children and with the neighborhood kids. Givans will be remembered for being caring and compassionate, and always putting others’ need before her own, and she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Givans was also preceded in death by two brothers, David Lathbury and John Lathbury. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Givans Sr. of Millsboro; a son, Gary Givans Jr. and his wife, Brandy, of Laurel, Del.; a daughter, Melissa Givans and her companion, Korri Smyre, of Millsboro; a sister, Belinda Pusey and her husband, James, of Laurel; two brothers, James Lathbury and Michael Lathbury, both of Dagsboro, Del.; and five grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary, Peyton and Jada Givens, and Mia Gibbs.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested donations to Delaware Hospice; 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963. Condolences may be sent online at www.watsonfh.com.
