The “blue ribbon” has become a standard of excellence.
Swim and track meets, pie competitions, even brands of mayonnaise — taking home a blue ribbon means you did something to the highest standard. Locally, Selbyville Middle School earned a National Blue Ribbon School honor for 2018, and there is much pride to be taken from that recognition.
“To be named a National Blue Ribbon School is a tremendous accomplishment made even more special by Selbyville Middle’s designation as the first secondary school in our district to receive this honor,” said Indian River School District (IRSD) Superintendent Mark Steele. “The hard work and dedication required of students and staff to receive Blue Ribbon recognition is simply remarkable.”
According to the U.S. Department of Education, who selected the Blue Ribbon winners, “This coveted award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.”
This is a big deal for SMS, one of only three schools to receive the award in Delaware this year, and there are plenty of congratulations to go around. We offer those to all who helped turn SMS into a premier middle school.
