Joseph I. Hudson, 84, of Frankford, Del., died after an extended illness on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Berlin (Md.) Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in St. Martin’s Neck in Bishopville, Md., the son of the late Josiah A. Hudson and Hester (Smith) Hudson.
Hudson was a 1951 graduate of Buckingham High School. He worked for 38 years at the DuPont Co. in Seaford, Del., where he held several positions, including electrician, before retiring in 1991. He was a past president of the 25-Year Club and enjoyed their many activities.
Hudson was a founding member of the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company in 1961 and was a member of Sound United Methodist Church near Williamsville, Del. He loved attending the many sporting events of his four grandchildren and was a big part of their lives.
Hudson enjoyed hunting and taking the family out on the pontoon boat to crab, fish and just relax. He loved to travel with his wife, Velma, and they went on many trips. He also enjoyed working outside, cutting wood and gardening. He liked going to the Energy Gym to work out and drink coffee with his friends. In later years, he enjoyed watching the birdfeeder and the many different birds and other animals that visited for food.
Hudson was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Velma G. Hudson, in 2016. He is survived by two daughters, Shelley K. Ennis and her husband, Fred, of Salisbury, Md., and Kimberly J. Hudson and her husband, Bill, of Frankford; four grandchildren, Aaron Ennis and his wife, Jessica, Patrick Ennis, Joshua Hudson and his wife, Melinda, and Kristin Hudson; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brianna, Colin and Sadie Jo; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Whitehead of Snow Hill, Md.; two sisters-in-law, June Truitt of Selbyville, Del., and Sandy Hudson of Frankford; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was scheduled for Oct. 11, 2018, at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville, Del., with the Rev. Cliff Toomey officiating. Burial will be in Roxana Cemetery in Roxana, Del.
