Family Fun Day to raise funds for Parkinson’s cause
A group of local businesspeople with a love for good causes and a knack for fundraising is holding its second annual Family Fun Day this weekend, again focusing on those fighting Parkinson’s disease as the recipients of the event’s proceeds.
Contractors for a Cause will hold its “Throw a Punch for Parkinson’s” Family Fun Day from 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, near Dagsboro.
Once again, the event will be held at the family farm of fellow contractor Frank Williams of Williams Contracting, whose mother is fighting Parkinson’s, according to Family Fun Day Chairman Wade Porter. Last year, the event raised nearly $7,000, and “We hope to do even better this year,” Porter said.
The day will include games for all ages and lots of family-friendly activities, including a moon bounce and a hayride, Porter said.
Music will be provided by Skinny B., and a variety of vendors will be providing a buffet-style dinner. The event is BYOB, with non-alcoholic beverages provided, he said. A 50/50 raffle and a “Chinese auction” will offer opportunities to win prizes while contributing to the cause. There will also be a wheel that can be spun to win a variety of gift cards.
Weather permitting, a bonfire may be held to cap off the day’s activities, Porter said.
“Frank [Williams] asked for help last year,” Porter said, and Contractors for a Cause, which has raised funds for many other families and causes over the years, jumped in to help.
In addition to raising funds to help with Parkinson’s patients and toward finding a cure, Family Fun Day proceeds will also be given to Delaware Hospice’s Palliative Care Program, Porter said.
The Contractors for a Cause Delaware Chapter was formed 15 years ago and has about 42 members. The organization has several ongoing programs through which it serves the community, including Helping Hands, which offers free professional home repair, maintenance and renovation services and advice to community members in need; the Legacy Scholarship Program, which provides two $3,000 scholarships to local students pursuing a career in construction; and the Good Neighbor Program, which supports local organizations, such as Willy’s Neighborhood, the Justin W. Jennings Foundation and Hogan’s Heroes.
Family Fun day will be held at the Williams family farm, located at 31174 Gray Road, Dagsboro. Tickets cost $20 per adult or $10 for children 12 or younger.
