Violet “Vi” M. Houser, 81, of Georgetown, Del., formerly of York, Pa., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Millsboro, Del.
She was born in York, Pa., on June 15, 1937, daughter of the late Edwin C. and Beatrice A. (Kilgore) Burkholder. She was a graduate of Red Lion High School.
Houser was a postal employee before her retirement. She was an active member with the AMVETS Post 22 and enjoyed attending the Cheer Center, both in Long Neck, Del. She and her husband enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races and fishing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Melvin E. Rittenhouse and J. Lee Houser, and her companion and close friend, Louis J. Hale III. She is survived by her close friend and caregiver, Kristine E. Kelleher; her aunt, Romaine Burkholder of York, Pa.; her fury feline companion, Girl; and several other close friends.
A funeral service was held Oct. 21, 2018, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Millsboro, Del. Interment will be held privately at the Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Delaware SPCA; 22918 Dupont Hwy.; Georgetown, DE 19947.
