John S. Salovich, 88, of Bethany Beach, Del., formerly of Norristown, Pa., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. He was born in Portage, Pa., on Dec. 17, 1929, son of the late Alexander Salovich and Louise (Garbacz)
Salovich proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, as a Russian interpreter. He attended Monterey School of Language for the Army and graduated from Rutgers University. He retired from work as an industrial engineer with Unisys.
Salovich was a past member of the Lord Baltimore Lions Club; a lifetime member of Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234 in Ocean View, Del.; and a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, Del. He volunteered at Beebe Cardiac Rehab for 14 years. He enjoyed golfing, reading and taking care of his family, and he faithfully prayed the rosary daily.
In addition to his parents, Salovich was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Salovich. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Josephine H. (Ibach) Salovich; a daughter, Suzanne Drewicz and her husband, Guy, of Richmond, Va.; and five grandchildren, Gary Dansereau II of Portland, Ore., Jessica Barnes and her husband, Max, of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Alyssa Drewicz Samuel Adam Drewicz and John Thomas Drewicz, all of Richmond, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Barnes and Ryan Barnes; and a brother, Donald Salovich and his wife, Olga, of New York.
