South Coastal DE AARP gives thanks

The South Coastal DE AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) Scholarship Committee extends a thank-you to everyone who made our Nov. 8 fundraiser a success. We are grateful to Fins Ale House & Raw Bar, Bethany Beach, for hosting the event for the second year in a row and donating a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the Scholarship Fund. Guests were able to bid on nine wine baskets made possible from several community businesses.

A big thank-you to those who donated wine or wine-related gift cards: Bayside Wines & Spirit, Bethany Beach Beverage Co., Beach Liquors, Big Liquor Shop, East Coast Liquors, Lighthouse Liquors, Salted Vines Vineyard &Winery, Savannah Discount Liquor and West Line Liquors.

Thanks also to members of the community who made cash contributions and to AARP members who contributed wine and time: Barbara Shamp, event coordinator; Kathy Johnson, Dawn Lekites, Shirley Price, Donna Spickler, Marilou Merrill, Joann McGaughey, Maureen Eisenhart, Faith Denault and Richard Legatski.

The Dine-and-Donate and Basket Auction Event is one of two annual fundraisers sponsored by the local AARP chapter to provide funds for college scholarships to Indian River High School students and to adult students from Sussex County attending Delaware Technical Community College. The next event will be the Artisans Fair, to be held Saturday, May 25, over Memorial Day weekend at Lord Baltimore Elementary School in Ocean View.
