William K. ‘Bill’ Scott Jr., 89

William K. “Bill” Scott Jr., 89, of Millville, Del., passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 20, 2018. He was born on May 31, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of William K. Scott Sr. and Freida Scott.

Scott graduated from John Bartram High School in Philadelphia in 1947. He married his beloved wife, Doreen “Elinore” (Davis) Scott, on Oct. 14, 1950, and they resided in Glenolden, Pa., while he worked for Bell Telephone in Philadelphia. In 1956, they moved to Millville.

He served his county in the U.S. Army, serving in the 45th and 3rd Infantry divisions in Korea. While serving, Scott was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Scott worked for Bell Telephone starting in 1947, retiring from Diamond State Telephone in 1982 with 30 years of devoted service. Scott established Delmarva Phone Company in 1983 and ran the business as president until 1997. During his career, Scott established many long-lasting relationships, many of which remain today.

His passion for serving others continued in 1958, when he joined the Lord Baltimore Lions Club, serving his community for 60 years and serving as club president in 1965 and 1993, and as secretary for 18 years. He also served the Lions Club International as district governor for District 22D in 1974 to 1975. He earned his life membership in 1975.

Scott was declared a Ralph Helm Fellow in 1988, a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1989 and a James A. McCarty Fellow in 2008. He was named the District Lion of the Year in 2003 and also served as the district historian for the State of Delaware.

He was also a member of the Ocean View (Del.) Church of Christ; St. Alban’s Masonic Lodge in Philadelphia; Mason Dixon VFW 7234 in Ocean View; life member of the Korean War Veterans; and life member of the Lions Eye Bank of the Delaware Valley and the Delaware Lions Foundation.

Scott was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Doreen; his parents, William K. Scott Sr. and Freida Scott; and a brother, Robert Scott. He is survived by a son, Douglas, and his wife, Patricia, of Millville; four grandchildren, Andrea M. Scott of Oviedo, Fla., Amos B. Scott of Arnold, Md., Nadene N. Hitch of Norristown, Pa., and Carrie A. Foskey of Frankford, Del.; and two great-grandchildren, Kaylei N. Kahoe of Frankford and Julia N. Robidoux of Arnold.

Services were to be held Nov. 27, 2018, at the Ocean View (Del.) Church of Christ, with interment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Del.
