Chauncey Sylvester “Chuck” Draine, 80, passed away in the care of Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., on Dec. 1, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. He was born on July 7, 1938, in Millsboro, Del., son of late Robert N. and Eunice Harmon.
Draine spent 30 years teaching history and social studies in the public schools of Cambridge, Md., Middletown, Del., and Washington, D.C. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Draine loved reading, theater, films and being a member of the Drama Club at Delaware State College (now Delaware State University). He was jovial and thoughtful, and had a great sense of humility. He also loved sports and was a Washington Redskins fan. He was totally unselfish and appreciative of everything. He did not ask much for himself. His caregivers praised his demeanor.
Draine is survived by his brother, Robert G. Draine Sr. and his wife, Luvenia M., of Millsboro; his uncle, Macklin Harmon and his spouse, Marion, also of Millsboro; four nephews, Wyatt Howell Sr., of Easton, Md., Delano G. Draine Sr. and his wife, Shelly, of Hampton, Va., Robert G. Draine Jr., of Freeland, Md., and Daniel J Veal III, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four great-nephews, and a great-great-niece.
A funeral service and celebration of Draine’s life will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Harmony United Methodist Church, 27270 John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro, Del. Friends may call starting at 11 a.m. for viewing and visitation, with the funeral service at noon. The Rev. Charlotte Nichols will officiate. Interment is to follow at the adjoining cemetery.
