Delphos Eugene ‘Pop’ ‘Del’ Price Sr., 87


Delphos Eugene “Pop” “Del” Price Sr., 87 of Lewes, Del., passed away in the loving company of family and friends on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. He was born on Aug. 25, 1931, in Chester, Pa., son of the late Benjamin J. Price Sr. and Marie Casey Price.

Price was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War. A member of the Scar Wolf Unit, 841st Engineer Aviation Battalion, he built airstrips in Korea and was a mess sergeant. He had a lifelong career as a butcher, starting at his father’s packing plant, Chester Rose Brand Meats, and later working for Milton Sausage & Scrapple, retiring after more than 25 dedicated years

He was a member and past president of the Lewes Lions Club and a member of American Legion Post 28. Price was an avid gardener and was famous for his local annual hog-butchering. He loved his animals and his pets as well. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Price was preceded in death in 2017 by his beloved wife of 60 years, Michaelina “Mickey” Price; his brother Benjamin James Price Jr.; and his sisters, Marie Haines, Rosalie Malizia and Louise Hilditch. He is survived by his children, Delphos E. “Del” Price Jr., Michael B. “Mike” Price and his spouse, Chris, Julie Proctor and her husband, Jim, Patricia “Pat” Mutchler and her husband, Byron, and Michaelina “Missie” Jones and her spouse, A.J.; his 12 grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; and his brothers John Price of Pennsylvania, and Richard Price and his wife, Doris, of Florida,

A memorial service was to be held Dec. 6, 2018, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes, Del. Interment with military honors followed at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Del.
