Each year, the artists of the South Eastern Delaware Artists Studio Tour (SEDAST) send a letter to the art teachers in the Indian River School District, asking if they would like to participate in the proceeds from the Art in the Hat raffle for an art project in their school. This year, the artists presented $3,145 to four teachers in the district.
The teachers had requested $2,250 in total, so the artists agreed to grant their individual requests and to divide the remaining $895 equally among the four teachers. The four schools receiving the benefits of the raffle this year are Phillip C. Showell Elementary School, Long Neck Elementary School, Sussex Central High School and Indian River High School. This year’s raffle brings the total granted to teachers for their classrooms to $63,275.
The raffle is made up of artwork donated by the artists for the Art in the Hat Raffle. They offered their thanks to all who participated in the raffle by purchasing a raffle ticket. The winners were notified on Saturday evening, Dec. 1, and arrangements made for them to pick up their winning artwork. Their raffle ticket purchase helped the schools, and they received a piece of artwork in return — a “win-win” for everyone, organizers said.
