James P. “Jimmy” Elliott, 73, of Gumboro, Del., passed away on Jan. 2, 2019. He was born April 1, 1945, in Lewes, Del., one of 14 children of the late Paul Elliott and Helen Hickman Elliott.
Elliott was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. Elliott retired from work at Cloverland Dairy, where he worked as a milk salesman, with 30 years of service.
Elliott grew up on the family farm, with many fond memories of picking cucumbers and strawberries, and working in the garden. He attended Carey’s United Methodist Church and enjoyed Carey’s Camp every summer. He was a die-hard Baltimore Ravens football fan and a Baltimore Orioles fan as well.
In addition to his parents, Elliott was also preceded in death by five siblings, Betty Baker West, Martha Collins, Evelyn Joyce Elliott, Reuben Elliott and Roscoe Elliott. He is survived by eight siblings, Pauline Todd of Millsboro, Del.; Reba Evans of Gumboro, Del.; Shirley Powell and her husband, James, of Statesville, N.C., Lorraine Clark of Gumboro, Del., Judy Wilkerson and her husband, Calvin, of Gumboro, Harry Elliott and his wife, Carol, of Georgetown, Del., Vernon Elliott and his wife, Lois, of Gumboro, and Roland Elliott and his wife, Bonnie, of Millsboro. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as two special friends, George Collins and Earl Stanley.
A funeral service was to be held Jan. 8, 2019, at Watson Funeral Home, with burial at Carey’s Cemetery, both in Millsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial donations to Delaware Hospice; 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963. Condolences may be sent online at www.watsonfh.com.
