Night to Shine is a beacon for community

There are nights to shine, and there are “Nights to Shine.” Fortunately, for our community, the latter will soon be upon us.

The Third Annual Night to Shine event, thanks to a partnership between the Ocean View Church of Christ and the Tim Tebow Foundation, will be held at the church on Friday, Feb. 8. It is a prom-like event for those with special needs, and it’s made possible by a remarkable amount of community volunteerism and love.

“I think this Night to Shine initiative is awesome,” said Ocean View Police Chief Ken McLaughlin. “It’s a great opportunity for folks with special needs to come out and have a fun night and participate in this prom-like experience. It’s a really neat event, and we’re looking forward to it being hosted again here in Ocean View.”

The church has close to 220 volunteers already for the event, and participants will arrive by limousine, walk the red carper and be greeted by “paparazzi,” according to Gina Warrington, a parishioner at Ocean View Church of Christ who volunteers.

This is truly a night to treasure, for both the participants and the volunteers who make it happen.
