Joan D. Williams, 76, of Georgetown, Del., passed away at home, in the loving care of her family and assisted by Vitas Hospice, on Feb. 16, 2019. She was born on Nov. 25, 1942, to the late Joseph C. Gordon and Alice Marie Hitchens Gordon.
Williams graduated from Georgetown High School and then, on Nov 3, 1961, married Harold T. Williams. She worked for 25 years at the Stockley Center, in the accounting department, retiring in 2002. She loved her family and friends. She was known for her love and kindness, home-cooked meals and her “slick dumplings,” for which she had a secret recipe. Her hobbies included watching game shows and reading her Bible. She was a member of Edgewater Wesleyan Church in Milton, Del.
In addition to her parents, Williams was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Gordon Jr., and her youngest son, Mark A. Williams. She is survived by her husband, Harold; her siblings, Doris Wilkins and her husband, Wayne, of Georgetown, Jeanette Hudson and her husband, Frank, of Gumboro, Del., Harry A. Gordon and his spouse, Pat, of Georgetown and Joseph C. Gordon Jr. and his spouse, Gloria, of Georgetown; a son, Michael T. Williams of Salisbury, Md.; daughter-in-law, Brenda Williams of Laurel, Del.; two grandsons, Mark A. Williams Jr. and Luke Williams, both of Georgetown; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and extended family members; as well as many friends.
Special thanks from the family went to Christiana Care of Newark, Del.; Chesapeake Health South of Salisbury, Md.; Harrison House Rehabilitation of Georgetown; and her husband, who served as her primary caregiver.
A funeral service was to be held Feb. 21, 2019, at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, Del., officiated by the Rev. Tim Wilson. Interment was to follow in Millsboro Cemetery.
