Virginia Banning Walls, 98, of Dover, Del., passed away, Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, at Milford Genesis Center. She was born June 16, 1920, in Dover, to the late Delbert Banning and Francis Hurley Banning.
Walls earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Goldey-Beacom College. She worked for Delaware State University and the State Pension Office for years. Walls was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Methodist Women’s Group and volunteered at the church clothing closet, as well as the hospital. She enjoyed summers in Fenwick Island, Del., at the family cottage, and winters visiting friends in Dover.
In addition to her parents, Walls was preceded in death by her husband, G. Carleton Walls, in 1998. She is survived by her son, Bruce Walls, and his wife, Susan Elizabeth Taylor-Walls, of Fenwick Island; a sister, Barbara Sheldon of Lewes, Del.; and a grandson, Tom Walls, and his wife, Ann-Marie-Walls of Siesta Key, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 3, 2019, at 2 p.m., at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, Del., where friends may call two hours prior. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers the family suggested contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Wesley Methodist Church.
