Samuel S. ‘Sam’ Hunt, 81, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Swedesboro, N.J., passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. He was born July 7, 1937, in Swedesboro, N.J., one of 16 children of the late Clifford V. Hunt and the late Edith (Leap) Hunt.
Hunt proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1962 with complete disability. He worked for the carpenter union Local 158 in Pennsylvania before moving to Delaware in the early 1990s. He attended Conley’s United Methodist Church in Lewes, Del. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 and the AmVets Post 2, both in Millsboro. Hunt enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Hunt was preceded in death by 11 siblings, Leslie, Vernon, James, Donald, Leland, Lawrence and Willard Hunt; Idabelle Huff; Ethel Schlump; Virginia Murphy; and Susan Souder. He is survived by his loving wife of 59-and-a-half years, Anita Leap Hunt; their daughters, Lori Beth Jester and her husband, Marvin, of Seaford, Del., and Carol L. Mellon and her husband, Michael, of Chesapeake, Va.; four grandchildren, Christopher Dalton and his fiancÈe, Meriah Gagnon, Kyle Dalton, Timothy Mellon and his wife, Caitlin, and Marlo Thompson and her husband, Kenneth; three great-grandchildren, Roxanna, Jamison and Samuel Dalton; a step-granddaughter, Kelly Miller and husband, Vern; four of Sam’s siblings, Dorothy Coppolino, Edith Wilson, Walter Hunt and Kenneth Hunt; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Hunt’s life will be held March 10, 2019, at Crossroad Community Church, Georgetown, Del. Interment was to be held privately, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Del.
