Jo-Ann E. Smith, 80, of Gumboro, Del., passed away unexpectedly, as a result of a car accident, on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. She was born on July 17, 1938, in Seaford, Del.
She worked for NCR as a machine inspector and later was a poultry grower for many years. She enjoyed driving, traveling, crochet, holding yard sales and spending time with her family, which included her “favorite daughter, Peaches,” her Maltipoo. In the mornings, she could be found at the Millsboro McDonald’s, where she and her friends would gather. She will be remembered as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne Smith, in 2004, and a brother, Jack Bennett. She is survived by three daughters, Tamara Carey and her husband, Roy, of Gumboro, Del., Robin Tharp and her husband, Buddy, of Laurel, Del., and Susan McCumbee and her husband Kenny, of Dagsboro, Del.; six grandchildren, Dawn Roach and her husband, Jack, David Carey and his wife, Natasha, Joshua Messick, Ryan Messick, Teressa Davidson and her husband, Brian, and Corey Jones and his wife, Sarah; five great-grandchildren, Brynn, Regan, Braven, Braxstyn and Rhett; and extended family members and friends.
A funeral service and celebration of her life was to be held March 27, 2019, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Del., with burial following at Line Church Cemetery.
