I am writing to extend my support for the Indian River School District referendum. As a retired special-education teacher and special-education coordinator from another state, I have an awareness of the impact on all students when school buildings are overcrowded.
This impact is magnified for students with disabilities as they attempt to navigate overcrowded learning environments and access their individualized programs in inclusive settings. The quality of educational services for students with disabilities will impact their future access to employment and independent living in the community as adults.
Since residing in Sussex County, Del., for the last two years, I have observed generosity and kindness by many people in the community. Let’s continue this generosity and kindness for our children by voting “yes” for the referendum on May 7, 2019. Visit irsd.net/referendum for polling places and more information.
