Carole Ann Clipperton, 81, of Millsboro, Del., and formerly of Rockaway, N.J., passed away at home, in the loving care of her family, on April 4, 2019. She was born in Summit, N.J., on Nov. 15, 1937, to the late Leonard Stonewall Johnsen and his wife, Cecile Degrenon Richmond Johnsen.
Clipperton graduated from Summit (N.J.) High School and from the Newark Public School of Fine Arts & Industrial Arts. She married Thomas Ward Clipperton on April 28, 1973. She retired from work as a file clerk supervisor for Automatic Switch Company.
She loved birdwatching and photography. She had a real knack for interior design and was ahead of the curve for was “in” and “out.” Clipperton was devoted to her family and would do anything for them. She never complained, even during rough spells. She was warm, welcoming and had a terrific sense of humor. She was an all-around great person.
In addition to her parents, Clipperton was preceded in death by two stepchildren, George Clipperton and Shandra Huelsenbeck, and a grandson, Derek. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; two children, Robert William Mitchell and his wife, Lisa, of Budd Lake, N.J., and Dean Frederick Mitchell and his wife, Mary, of Lewes, Del.; a stepdaughter, Cori Clipperton of Hackettstown, N.J.; a brother, Leonard Stonewall Johnsen Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Merrill’s Inlet, S.C.; her grandchildren Laura, Kelly, Erin, Ryan, Kyle, Tyler, Nicholas and Dylan; a great-grandchild, Chase; her niece, Holly; a nephew, Chris; and her cousins, extended family and many, many friends.
A memorial service and celebration of Clipperton’s life are to be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to the Tunnell Cancer Center; 18947 John J. Williams Hwy, #101; Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Condolences may be sent online at www.watsonfh.com.
