Violet Pittman Snyder, 84, of Selbyville, Del., passed away at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. She was born on Nov. 26, 1934, in Glen White, W.Va., to the late Dempsey S. Pittman and Myrtle Sanger Pittman.
Snyder retired in 1977 from work for the Indian River School District, where she was a cafeteria manager at the old Selbyville Middle School and Phillip C. Showell Elementary School. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Selbyville, and an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company. She was also a volunteer for the Delaware Blood Bank. She was a vibrant, fun and outgoing person to spend time with, and who will be greatly missed.
Snyder was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Ted” Snyder, on July 3, 2000; her siblings Roger Pittman, Alfred Pittman, Guy Pittman and Joyce Hopkins; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Snyder. She is survived by three sons, Theodore Snyder Jr. and his wife, Gail, of Georgetown, Del., Jack and his wife, Kathy, of Gumboro, Del., and Dwayne “Dobie” Pittman and his wife, Vonda, of Gumboro, Del.; four sisters, Rena Perkins, Faye Lynch, Sue Richardson and Beverly Wolf; a brother, Charles Pittman; her grandchildren, Ted Snyder III and his wife, Theresa, Stacey Hicks and her husband, Mike, Brandon Snyder and his wife, Carrie, Tara Magee and her husband, Eric, Carley Snyder, and Heather Rose and her husband, Joe; and her great-grandchildren Hunter Snyder, Claire Hicks, Elizabeth Hicks, Jack Hicks, Audrey Snyder, Brody Snyder and Stacey Tice.
A funeral service and celebration of Pittman’s life will be held on Good Friday, April 19, 2019, at 1 p.m. at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Del. The Rev. Dale Vroman will officiate. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for viewing and visitation with the family. Interment follows at the Red Men’s Cemetery in Selbyville, Del.
