The John M. Clayton Elementary School PTO will host the 2019 RUN JMC Color Run 5K/2-Mile Trail Run & Kids Fun Run on Saturday, May 4, at the Indian River High School cross-country trail on Armory Road in Dagsboro, featuring a 5K and 2-mile option trail run full of color splash and powder zones where participants will be doused in bright colors, and a Kid Fun run for children 5 or younger.
Organizers said one of the goals of this run, besides raising money for the school, is to promote healthy living. The event is open to anyone, no matter their fitness level or capability, and is open to the entire community.
Prior to the event, there will be music to get the festivities started, a photo booth to capture memories pre- and post run, post-race snacks and more. Organizers reminded those who haven’t previously participated in a color run to be sure to wear light-colored clothes and shoes that they don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Fun and creative costumes are being encouraged and welcomed.
The event will start at 8 a.m. with registration and check-in, followed by the Kid Fun Run at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K/2-mile Trail Run to follow with a 9 a.m. kickoff.
“We are so thrilled with how the community has come together to help us get this run off the ground,” stated JMC Teacher Caroline Hevner. “The school is excited to get the entire community involved and hope that it becomes something that everyone looks forward to each year.”
“We were trying to come up with an idea to help promote healthy living, raise money for the school and ensure the kids had fun,” she explained. “There aren’t many races out there that focus solely on kids, so we created this event for them.”
Hevner said that, without the help of several local businesses, including Hertrich Toyota of Milford, 1800-GOT-JUNK, BJs Wholesale Club, PENCO Corporation, State Farm—Billy Reese and Team Timmons Realtors, the event wouldn’t be possible.
