Bernard P. Lynch, 91, of Frankford, Del., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at his home. He was born in Frankford, Del., on May 26, 1927, son of the late Atwood F. Lynch Sr. and the late Hazel C. (Walls) Lynch.
Lynch proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II. In 1992, he retired from work as the postmaster of the Frankford Post Office, after 25 years of service. He served his community in a number of capacities for the Town of Frankford. He served as the town’s mayor and was also on the town council for a number of years.
Lynch was a charter member of the Elks Lodge 2173 in Selbyville, Del., and also a faithful member of the Frankford United Methodist Church. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Lynch was preceded in death by his wife, Grace H. Lynch; his brother, Atwood F. Lynch Jr.; and three sisters, Eleanor Lingo, Melreth Holladay and Odelta Lynch. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Hearn and her husband, Edgar, of Frankford; his son, Philip Lynch of Lewes, Del.; two granddaughters, Tonya James and her husband, Curtis, of Seaford, Del., and Monica Banks and her husband, Ted, of Dagsboro, Del.; three great-grandchildren, Lindsey Furbush, Branson James and Kenton James; two step-grandchildren, Pam Clowser and her husband, Brian, of Millsboro, Del., and Eddie Hearn of Laurel, Del.; and three step-great-grandchildren, Cierra Hearn, Sidney Hearn and Brooke Clowser.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., with visitation at noon, on Friday, May 10, 2019, at Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, Del. Interment will follow at Carey’s Cemetery in Frankford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to the Frankford U.M. Church; P.O.
