Located just south of Bethany Beach, Sea Colony has recently increased its standing among the world’s elite tennis destinations, according to Tennis Resorts Online (TRO)’s 2019 rankings released on May 1.
Sea Colony is one of just four destinations to earn a place in this year’s TRO global Top 20 for both tennis resorts and tennis camps.
Published by former Tennis magazine editor Roger Cox, TennisResortsOnline.com ranked Sea Colony as the world’s No. 18 tennis resort, moving up three spots from 2018, and a Top 20 tennis camp, as well as No. 4 for “Best Resort Junior Tennis Programs.”
TRO’s annual rankings are determined by tennis players, who were asked to evaluate resorts and camps in 20 categories, including tennis programs, instruction, lodging, restaurants and value. This year’s global recognition adds to decades of local, regional and national honors earned by the southern Delaware resort community and its tennis staff.
With 34 tennis courts, including six indoor and 14 Har-Tru clay, and team of teaching professionals, Sea Colony Tennis, under Tennis Director Thomas Johnston, USPTA, PTR, and Assistant Tennis Director Alex Justiniani, PTR, offers a full-service pro shop, camps, clinics and private instruction to tennis players of all ages and skill levels.
Supported by the Sea Colony homeowners, the resort’s tennis program was named a United States Tennis Association (USTA) Outstanding Facility of the Year in 2012 and 2016 and a USTA Middle States Premier Provider in 2017 and 2018.
In addition to its tennis offerings, Sea Colony features a variety of amenities, including a half-mile of private beach, 12 pools (two indoor), fitness centers, activities for all ages, in-season community shuttle and year-round security.
