Jalen S. Griffin, 23, of Dagsboro, Del., departed this life on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Md. Born July 12, 1995, in Lewes, Del., he was the son of Kimberly Griffin-McCray (and her husband, Fabian Sr.) of Dagsboro and James H. Gibbs Jr. of Millsboro, Del.
Griffin volunteered at the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department, Station 73. He worked as a roofer at Tecta America in Fruitland, Md. He also attended Antioch A.M.E. Church in Frankford, Del.
In addition to his parents, Griffin will be lovingly remembered by four brothers, Fabian McCray Jr., Torez Ayres and his wife, Keyana, Ryan Parker and Princeton Gibbs; seven sisters, Martesha Conner, DaMya Williams, Fabrea McCray Conner, Chloe Martin, Jamia Mitchell, Janell Gibbs and Khature Gibbs; grandparents, Jeanlene Jacobs and her husband, Glen Sr., the Rev. Dr. Perry Tankard Sr. and his wife, Rona, Charles McCray and his wife, Edna, and James Gibbs Sr. and his wife, Sherry; maternal great-grandmothers, the Pastor Mae E. Parker and Hazel Jacobs; paternal great-grandmother, Lillian Gibbs; a nephew, Trenton Ayres; a niece, Ava McCray; a special friend, Kayla Lathbury; and several uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Services were held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Indian River High School, Dagsboro, Del., with a firefighters’ escort through town. Interment followed at Antioch A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Frankford, Del.
