Cynthia M. “Cindy” Nicastro, 78, of Frankford, Del., formerly of Hyattsville, Md., passed away surrounded by her loving family at home on Saturday, May 18, 2019.
Nicastro was born Sept. 19, 1940, in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Frank M. Gocal and the late Helen E. (Kurtz) Gocal. She worked as the personnel director for the Hecht Company at the Landover Hills store. Nicastro than began working at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic School in Hyattsville as the school secretary, before her retirement.
She and her husband, Tony, were Eucharistic ministers at St. Mark’s Church and also helped with counting the offering at both St. Mark’s and St. Ann’s in Bethany Beach, Del. Nicastro had a giving personality as she was always willing to donate to veterans organizations and also to local animal shelters. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her Catholic faith and her love of animals and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Anthony Nicastro, and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Wood. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Anthony J. Nicastro; a daughter, Michelle Neafsey and her husband, Michael; two granddaughters, Stephanie Wood and Cara Wood; a brother, Francis Gocal; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was held May 23, 2019, at St. Ann Catholic Church, Bethany Beach, Del., followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del.
