Editorial: Voters to have their say in South Bethany election
The South Bethany Town Council election will be held this weekend, and voters in the town will have an important say in the immediate future of how South Bethany is governed.
All together, there are eight candidates running for four spots on Council — three of those seats are for two-year terms, and the other is a one-year position. Voting will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at South Bethany Town Hall, and the turnaround for the seats is fast — terms will begin on June 1.
The town has been going through some acrimony as of late, and many see the election as a referendum on the “state of the Town.” Hopefully, the election will come, the people of South Bethany will have their voices heard and all steps from Saturday evening on can go toward the future of the Town.
Elections are a powerful tool, and can be used to either offer confirmation for the current arc of a governmental body, or direct leadership to a new direction. If you’re unhappy with how things are going in South Bethany, well, here’s your chance to make your voice heard. If you’re satisfied, make your voice heard, as well. Both sides have equal say in an election.
Bring it on, Summer 2019.
Our community is ready for the new summer season, and we welcome everybody who has come to town for the holiday weekend. Enjoy (hopefully) great weather, beautiful beaches and excellent stores and restaurants. This is the kickoff to the season, and we wish everyone a fun, safe trip filled with memories.
