Builder says it’s time to change permits

Editor:

Well, it’s parking permit/meter season, and anti-business Bethany Beach is at it again. The house I am building on the corner of Wellington and Parkway averages 10 vehicles per day. Bethany claims when we park on the jobsite, we intimidate people from parking in the meter spots. At this location, no one parks at the meters until Memorial Day weekend and after mid-June. We can’t work Memorial Day, and the project will be complete by June 15.

All other Delaware Beach towns provide an opportunity for business to obtain a seasonal permit!

South Bethany provides parking permits at no charge with the purchase of a business license!

Rehoboth provides one builder’s parking permit with the purchase of a business license. Additional permits can be purchased for $250.

Dewey provides seasonal builder’s parking permit cost $200 per year, and it can be transferred from vehicle to vehicle.

Fenwick provides one seasonal builder’s parking permit with the purchase of a business license. Additional permits can be purchased for $5 each. That’s right — $5.

Bethany Beach charges:

• $27 per day;

• $79 for three days;

• $135 for five days.

Bethany does not sell seasonal!

The house I am building provided $39,062 in building permit fees!

With an average 10 vehicles per day onsite, that equates to $1,350 per week to be able to work! This is unacceptable for business. If you agree, please call the Bethany mayor, town council and town manager, (302) 539-8011
